The Department of Soil and Water Research is one of the oldest departments of Fars Province and Iran with a history of research since 1960, and has been active in the field of identifying and classifying soils and investigating the relationships between soil, water and plants. In addition to studying and identifying more than two million hectares of agricultural lands and fields of Fars and neighboring provinces, this department also covers a significant area of other provinces' lands under its research programs in the form of the following research groups:

• Origin, formation and classification of soils and land evaluation
• Irrigation and soil physics
• Soil fertility and plant nutrition
• Soil amendment and sustainable land management
• Soil biology
