The Department of Agronomic and Horticultural Research was established in 1967 as an agricultural research station in Zarghan City. Six different research units that cover many of the research needs of the province and regions of the same climate are active in this sector and including the Cereals Research Unit (bread wheat, durum wheat, barley, and triticale), Oilseeds Research Unit (canola, sunflower, safflower, sesame, and soybean), Corn and Fodder Plants Research Unit (grain and fodder corn), Genetics and Heritage Research Unit, Vegetable and Quinoa Research Unit, Horticulture Research Unit (grapes, olives, almonds, pomegranates, figs, dates, citrus fruits, pistachios).
